BMS and smart buildings

Controlling energy and comfort in commercial buildings

A building automation (BMS) engineer at Miles Group, Intissar controls a building's equipment to cut its energy consumption while improving the comfort of its occupants.

The job

Controlling a building's equipment to cut its energy consumption while improving the comfort of its occupants: that is Intissar's job.

A very topical job, driven by the growth of smart buildings and new regulatory requirements — notably the French BACS decree, which is gradually stepping up automation and control in commercial buildings.

Highly technical work

Behind these goals lies a demanding job: understanding how sometimes complex systems work, identifying malfunctions and finding their cause.

  • curiosity, thoroughness and initiative every day;
  • a solid grounding in electrical engineering, which is particularly useful;
  • for young engineers drawn to building automation: train in electrical engineering to become more autonomous.

What she enjoys

Working on a project from A to Z, from studies to commissioning, and even maintenance. Above all, seeing the concrete result of her work and its impact on the building's energy consumption.

A technical, hands-on and varied job, which she would like to see better known among young engineers.
